What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is the copper complex of the three-amino-acid peptide glycine-histidine-lysine. On cosmetic labels, you may see the name Copper Tripeptide-1. The sequence and its copper association distinguish GHK-Cu from other peptides; evidence for GHK-Cu cannot be transferred to BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, PT-141, or another molecule.

The ingredient name also does not reveal concentration, purity, stability, carrier, skin delivery, directions, or finished-formula performance. Those product facts must be evaluated separately.

Why GHK-Cu attracts scientific interest.

In laboratory research, GHK-Cu has been studied for how dermal fibroblasts build and organize extracellular-matrix components. A cultured human-fibroblast study reported increased collagen synthesis after exposure to the copper-peptide complex. Other cell research has examined signaling involved in matrix biology.

These studies help describe a possible mechanism and explain why GHK-Cu appears in cosmetic research. They do not demonstrate that a person applying a finished serum will increase collagen, rebuild tissue, or see a particular change in appearance.

What human topical research can tell us.

Small studies of topical copper-peptide formulas have evaluated visible qualities such as texture, firmness, fine lines, and overall skin appearance. Those topics are the basis for much of the cosmetic interest surrounding GHK-Cu.

The direct published human evidence is still limited and formulation-specific. A small randomized study completed by 13 participants after laser resurfacing did not find a statistically significant objective advantage for erythema, wrinkles, or skin quality compared with control, although participant satisfaction was higher. A recent critical review also noted gaps in published clinical and skin-delivery evidence.

Delivery and formula still matter.

Peptides are not automatically effective because they appear on an ingredient list. Sequence, concentration, chemical stability, the full formula, contact time, application conditions, and skin permeation all affect relevance. An in-vitro human-skin diffusion study can describe movement under its laboratory conditions, but it does not prove the behavior or result of a different commercial formula.

VitaPep’s current GHK-Cu listing identifies dimethyl sulfoxide as a carrier. Review the exact ingredient list and product directions before use. The carrier’s presence is not, by itself, proof of absorption, bioavailability, safety, or efficacy.

What this research does not establish.

  • It does not establish that VitaPep’s finished formula increases collagen or elastin in people.
  • It does not establish wound healing, scar reduction, tissue regeneration, anti-inflammatory effects, or post-procedure recovery.
  • It does not establish hair growth, follicle activation, or a treatment for hair loss.
  • It does not replace finished-formula safety substantiation, product directions, or individualized medical guidance.
