DMSO can play more than one formulation role

DMSO is a polar solvent that mixes with water and can dissolve a broad range of substances. In topical pharmaceutical research and products, it has also been used as a penetration enhancer—a substance intended to reduce part of the skin barrier’s resistance to another ingredient.

Those general properties help explain why a formulator may select DMSO. The behavior of a complete product still depends on DMSO concentration, the other ingredients, the substance being carried, skin condition, contact time, and application method.

Why peptide-specific delivery still needs testing

Penetration enhancers interact with both the skin and the substance being carried. Peptides differ in size, charge, structure, stability, and affinity for the vehicle. General DMSO literature therefore cannot supply a delivery value for BPC-157 Arginate, GHK-Cu, KPV, TB-500, or PT-141 in a VitaPep formula.

A peptide-specific claim would need a study of the relevant finished formula using a defined human-skin or human-use method, controlled application conditions, and measurements that directly answer the claim.

What human safety reviews report

A systematic review of 109 human studies found that skin and gastrointestinal reactions were the most commonly reported adverse reactions associated with DMSO. Most reported reactions were transient and mild, and the review found that dose played an important role.

That broad review covered different routes, concentrations, products, and clinical settings. It does not replace the current label or establish the safety of every DMSO-based cosmetic for every person or application area.
